Family and Descendants of the Late Anne (Ridge) and James Gravestock!

James Gravestock, our Great Grand Father was born in Deal Kent, England in 1833 and was a Scholar. He married Anne Ridge on June 27, 1858, Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London, England. Anne was born in Chelsea, Middlesex, England in 1836. They had four children who were George (born in 1863), Alice (born in 1871), Florance (born in 1863) and Burford Gravestock our Grand Father.

What we do know is that our Grand Father came to Canada in 1907 with his wife, Esther (nee Garratt) Gravestock from Plymouth, England and daughter of Julus Garratt (born 1837) and Sarah. Her father was a blacksmith and her brother Julus Jr. was a scholar. Esther passed away on August 7, 1940 and you can read her Obituary. Burford was born in London England on August 16, 1874 and died in Pictou, Nova Scotia, on May 13, 1943.

Our Grand Father was co-founder of the Pictou Theatre which opened in the fall of 1915, and he was an accountant. The following paragraph is quoted from the "Pictou 1916: Public Institutions Website" and you can see a picture of the theatre by clicking the link from their Website.

"Pictou has a very fine theatre which compares favorably in its equipment and comfort with those in larger towns.  It was opened in the fall of 1915, and is the product of Mr. B. Gravestock's energetic effort, who recognizing the need of an up-to-date play house, organized a stock company composed of the leading business men in the town, and rebuilt the old Advocate Hall previously used as a moving picture house, into a modern theatre.  The interior is beautifully decorated.  The chairs are up-to-date and comfortable.  The house seats 500 people, and the orchestra of eight instruments, would be hard to duplicate in the province, while the entertainment provided is of first class order and changed nightly."

Growing up was hard at times because of the different spelling and pronunciation variations of this family name which include: Greystoke, Graystock, Greystock, Graystoke, Gravstock, Gravstoke, and others. But it doesn't stop only in our generation, as my brother's son Garrett will tell you.

Garrett Thomas Gravestock - "I have had my name mispronounced many different ways. Especially growing up in a mostly French area of Northern New Brunswick. The announcers at my hockey games always tried to make my name have a French accent!"

Our father was a foot soldier in the Canadian Army during WWII and served in different parts of Europe for five years. When over there, he wrote my mother telling her and even sent her pictures of different girl friends that he was with. I believe that we have a step brother that we never knew about, especially after reading an article from a forum on the internet dated May 04, 2000.

aa. Avalena Thereault was born June 21, 2006 in Sudbury.
ii. Rejean (Reggie) David Thereault was born August 19, 1983 in Sudbury.
b. David Alfred Laforest born July 8, 1962 in Sudbury. He is partnered with Monique Savage since 1994. She was born September 12, 1959.

b. Lori Gravestock born February 1, 1972, and married Norm Rheault (Second Marriage) on August 6, 2005 in Sudbury at Mumma Camp on Elbow Lake. He was born July 31, 1968. They were both born in Sudbury but they met each other in New Brunswick. Norm had 4 children from his first marriage.
i. Hailey (Gravestock) Rheault was born September 8, 1994 in New Brunswick.
ii. Logan Rheault was born September 1, 2004 in New Brunswick.
iii. Liam Rheault was born March 8, 2006 in New Brunswick.
